A few years ago, I was in my office and a coworker told me about an amazing project that hed just come back from. He talked about this old building that had been converted into a bunch of lofts and how amazing the homes were. He talked about the incredible views, the design, the outdoor space and how unique it was. Shortly afterwards, I hopped in my car and drove up to see what would become my favorite loft building in San Diego
Moddom “ Located in the mid-century Hammond Machinery and Supply Co. building, this is by far one of the coolest buildings Ive seen in San Diego. There are a series of 10 lofts that overlook Lindbergh Field, the bay and downtown San Diego. These homes are true lofts “ great open spaces with high ceilings and beautiful wood floors. There are different floorplans, but my favorites are the larger units, which range from about 1500“2000sqft. The Moddom lofts have stainless steel appliances, wood floors, concrete walls(some of them), exposed ventilation ducts and probably the coolest fireplaces Ive ever seen. Now Im not sure if anyones changed the original finishes, but the original product was very impressive.
My favorite part of these lofts was the long, mesh steel catwalk that connected the upstairs living area to the LARGE outdoor patio space. To me, this gave it that extra touch, reminding you how unique this building, while connecting the old Hammond Building, to the current, contemporary Moddom loft building.
Moddom is located on India Street, just north of the airport(youre not under the flight path and hardly get any airplane noise) and south of the Starlight Lounge. The lofts come with private roof decks that are around 16×20, private garages and much more. Anyhow, if youre interested in a true loft space, let me know. Parkloft is also a great loft building, but the HOAs are very high and financing is impossible right now. Plus, at Moddom, you dont have tons of neighbors!
There is currently one of the lofts for sale at Moddom. Its almost 1700 sqft and is bank owned, listed at almost 30% below what it sold for just 3 years ago! Call me for more info.
