Pinnacle is one of Downtown San Diego’s most popular buildings. It’s central location and incredible views are what makes the Pinnacle a great place to live. Developed by Michael de Cotiis of Pinnacle International in 2005, this 450 foot tall, 36 story tower was the last best investment, before the market turned.
The Pinnacle Museum Tower is located at 550 Front Street, on the south side of Market Street. At the base of the building is the always popular Richard Walker’s pancake house, along with Union Bank of California. On the other side of the building is the new Children’s Museum.
Ceiling heights are typically higher here, ranging between 9–12 feet and the standard finishes include marble floors, granite
counter tops, Snaidero cabinets, Sub-Zero refrigerators and jacuzzi bath tubs.
There are 8 units per floor from levels 3–10 and then only 6 per floor from levels 11–20(the Executive Floors). The units begin with the “01” homes on the south-east corner and continue in a counter clockwise direction. In my opinion, the best water views are from the “01” and “08” units, as they are on the south side of the tower. The “06” and “07” views are along the west side, which also have great water views, but also include city views.
From floors 15 and higher, you get incredible, unobstructed bay views to the west, as City Front Terrace(the neighboring building) is only 13 stories high. If you want protected views, this is what you want.
The 21st-26th floors are the Premiere floors, with only 5 units per floor. Floors 27–30, the Signature levels, only have 4 per floor and then floors 31 and 32(the Landmark floors) only have 3 per floor. Above that are the Pinnacle levels, which only have 2 homes per floor.
Pinnacle has the typical amenities you’d expect in a luxury high rise. There’s a 95’ lap pool, steam and sauna room, hot tub, gym, theater room and a even a guest suite. The building also has 24 hour security and concierge, who will do anything from collecting your mail packages, to calling you a cab, to planning and booking your next cruise.
I think what I like most about the Pinnacle, is that you rarely need your car. It’s so close to everything! You’re 3 blocks to the Gaslamp district, 2 blocks from Ralphs and only one more to Horton Plaza. In addition to the great location, I think Pinnacle has some of the best views Downtown. Whats even better is that these views are protected.
Granted, some of the bedrooms are a bit small, especially on the lower floors, but how much time do you actually spend in your bedroom? Another thing I really like is that the Pinnacle offers split floor plans – meaning the bedrooms do not share a common wall. The “03” and “06” floor plans for example, have the bedrooms on either end of the condo, with the living and dining room separating them. Plus, this floor plan offers 2.5 baths, allowing both bedrooms to have en suite baths…a huge plus.
If you’re thinking about buying Downtown, you don’t want to write off the Pinnacle.
